The New Colossus, by Emily Lazarus

© Sylvia Liu
The news caused me to look up the original poem that is engraved on the Statue of Liberty, written by Emma Lazarus (1849-1887), one of the first and successful Jewish-American authors. This is the text of the poem she wrote to raise money to pay for the pedestal of the statue.

Revised Kite Flyer & Dinosaur March

© Sylvia Liu
Working with Giuseppe Castellano's The Illustration Department. He gave me a portfolio critique and I reworked one of my old illustrations taking into account his feedback. His main comment was not to rely so much on an even thick outline.

I also redid the dinosaur march one I did last month:

Killer Caterpillar

I've been creative lately but haven't had time to post things. One of the things I'm doing is auditing Renée LaTulippe's awesome Lyrical Language Lab course. One of the lessons was the Trochee, and we were asked to write a caterpillar poem.
